Budget
Airlines
Budget, Low-cost, Low-fare or
No-frills, many names same idea. Eliminate most of the
traditional passenger services and reduce costs to a
minimum. To reduce the price of fares to passengers
is contrary to IATA
rules, which is why budget airlines operate outside
it.
Originating in North America, the idea spread to Europe
in the early 1990's with the transition of Ryan Air.
The mid 1990's saw the first purpose formed budget airline
with EasyJet, and almost all Full Service Airlines
have now tried a No-Frills arm but with mixed
success. One notable convert is British Midland with
bmibaby.
The Net provides them with the opportunity to eliminate
the commissions paid to travel systems traditionally
used to sell seats, and it's no coincidence that airlines
who fully embraced the Net seem to be experiencing the
most success.
The 3 budget airlines mentioned above are known by almost
all air travellers, yet at the time of this page being
published, there are 26 budget airlines operating out
of the UK. NawtNets Budget Airline Guide and Route Guide
are super ways for potential passengers to find the
airline or tour operator who owns the seat they want
to buy.
